British born Nigerian film actress and producer, Ebele Okaro Onyiuke was born on January 19 to Nigerian parents of Igbo descent. Her father was an engineer and a lover of arts, and her mother was a television producer. Onyiuke was raised as the second child of a family of six in Enugu, Nigeria. Her creative involvement dates back to her growing up years. As a child, Onyiuke seizes every opportunity to entertain both at home and in school. She attended Santa Maria Primary School, Enugu; Queen of the Holy Rosary Secondary School, Nsukka; and the University of Calabar where she initially enrolled to study Education but eventually graduated with a degree in Theatre Arts.
Onyiuke’s hobby as a child turned into an undeniable passion and a lifelong career. While at the University of Calabar, Onyiuke was introduced by her lecturer to one of the producers at Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Calabar who gave her the chance to become part of the drama group and to perform on a weekly television programme. She joined NTA Lagos, during her National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) and continued to act on television drama series. With few acting jobs back then and more personal responsibilities, Onyiuke went on to work with the Australian High Commission and later the Royal Merchant Bank, while acting on the side. Upon the vibrant boost of the Nigerian film industry, Onyiuke made a comeback and has rose to prominence with 100 films to her credit.
Once described by a critic as an actress who possesses a textbook and clinical acting finishing, Onyiuke is known for the delivery of spectacular performances in all her work.
