Terry Pheto is a South African film actress, and producer known for ‘’Tsotsi’’ (2005), ‘’The Color of Freedom’’ (2007), ‘’How to Steal 2 Million’’ (2011), and ‘’Ayanda’’ (2015). In 2006, she won the Best Supporting Actress award at the 1st South African Film and Television Awards for her role as ‘Miriam’ in the Academy Award winning film, ‘’Tsotsi’’. In 2012 she won the award for Best Supporting Actress at the 8th Africa Movie Academy Awards for her role as ‘Olive’ in ‘’How to Steal 2 Million’’.
Born Moitheri Pheto on 11th May, 1981, in Evaton, South Africa, Pheto was raised in Soweto where she was discovered by Moonyeenn Lee during the casting period for ‘’Tsotsi’’, which marked her screen debut and rise to international repute. Pheto is also known for ‘’Zone 14’’ (TV series, 2005), ‘’‘’Catch a Fire’’ (2006), ‘’Sekalli le Meokogo’’ (short film, 2006), ‘’Day and Night’’ (short film, 2006), ‘’Goodbye Bafana’’ (2007), ‘’Mafrika’’ (2008), ‘’Hopeville” (2010), ‘’The Bold and The Beautiful’’ (TV series, 2011-2013), ‘’Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom’’ (2013), ‘’Cuckold’’ (2015), ‘’Madiba’’ (TV miniseries, 2017), ‘’A United Kingdom’’ (2016), and ‘’Faces’’ (2018).
In 2015, Pheto co-produced the romance drama ‘’Ayanda’’, which won a Special Jury prize with the title ‘’Ayanda and The Mechanic’’ at the LA Film Festival in 2015.
